Sustainability practices and ESG compliance aren’t about ticking a few boxes and calling it a day. We all must do our bit for the people we work with, the communities we serve and the planet we all share. That’s why each year we take part in the EcoVadis assessment. It helps us stay on track, make better choices, improve and grow.
We’re proud to say we’ve earned a bronze medal from EcoVadis. We do this because we care about fairness, safety, ethics and the kind of world we’re helping to shape. These same values are reflected in our ESG policy. We eagerly look forward to the opportunity to keep improving our rating over the years.
Who are EcoVadis?
EcoVadis is a global organisation that rates companies on how well they manage sustainability and ESG compliance. They’ve assessed over 100,000 businesses in more than 175 countries. EcoVadis work across every kind of industry, from manufacturing and logistics to food and tech.
Their aim is to give companies a clear, reliable way to measure progress in key areas like environmental impact, workers’ rights, and ethical business. These ratings are based on evidence and reviewed by experts, which makes them trusted by big brands and procurement teams around the world.
For us, EcoVadis gives structure and accountability to the work we’re doing that people outside of Seetru do not get to see. Things that matter not just to customers, but to our team, our distributors, and our local community.
What do EcoVadis do?
EcoVadis reviews how companies like ours behave behind the scenes. It’s all good for a company to say that they’re doing good things behind the scenes. However, having proof is even better! Ecovadis check the policies we’ve written, the actions we’ve taken, and the proof we have to back it all up. This includes policies like our Modern Slavery Policy that set clear standards across our business.
It’s about being honest, being willing to improve, and showing that we mean what we say. EcoVadis gives each company a score and ranks it against others in the same industry. That makes it easier to see where you stand and where you can do better.
What is an EcoVadis Assessment?
The EcoVadis assessment looks at how well a business is performing across four areas:
- Environment: This is about energy, emissions, waste, water, and how we care for natural resources. Every bit of progress, no matter how small helps protect the world we’ll leave behind for future generations.
- Labour & Human Rights: Everyone deserves fair pay, safe working conditions, and respect. Whether it’s in our team or our supply chain, people should always come first.
- Ethics: This covers things like bribery, corruption, and transparency. Doing the right thing isn’t negotiable because it’s how we build trust with each other and with our customers.
- Sustainable Procurement: This one’s about where we get our materials from and how our suppliers treat people and the planet. If we wouldn’t accept poor practice ourselves, we shouldn’t accept it from anyone else either.
This assessment shows us where we are, where we’re doing well, and where there is room for growth and improvement.
To get assessed, we fill out a detailed questionnaire and provide supporting documents. Things like policies, action plans, reports, and results. Then EcoVadis reviews our submission, checks it against international standards, and gives us a score out of 100.
Based on that score, we’re awarded a medal (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum). Ours is Bronze, and while that’s a positive start, it’s only the beginning. What matters most is what we do next. The report is a guide to help us keep improving year after year.
Why is EcoVadis important?
It’s easy to throw around words like ‘sustainability’ and ‘ethical business’, but it’s important to show that there is meaning behind those words. There is legitimate action taken within a company to improve.
Procurement teams across the world can look for EcoVadis ratings as part of supplier selection. More and more, companies are being asked to show what they stand for. EcoVadis makes that visible in a way that’s fair, consistent, and recognised in any industry.
Apart from the business case, there’s the human one too. If we want safer workplaces and be more responsible with our use of our planet’s resources. Then we need systems that encourage and aid progress. That’s what EcoVadis does it helps good intentions grow into action.
Why did Seetru Apply for an EcoVadis Assessment?
We applied because we care and understand that what we do, and don’t do has an impact. It’s up to us to make sure whether that impact is a positive or negative one. The EcoVadis assessment gives us a structured way to measure our actions and stay focused on what needs to be done.
It also helps bring clarity to the work that often happens behind closed doors. Our team puts time and energy into improving Seetru. That means reducing our environmental footprint, supporting fair work, and setting high expectations for ourselves. Our commitment to doing better also led us to join Business Declares. They’re a non-profit group that brings businesses together to act on climate change and to promote social and ecological responsibility.
Getting a Bronze medal from EcoVadis was a proud moment, but we also saw it as a starting line. Each assessment gives us feedback, areas to grow, and something to aim for. Together we’re working towards a better future for all of us.
