Coded Pipe Couplings

Seetru's range of patented Coded Pipe Couplings (or connectors) provide safety and security in pipe and hose couplings. While maintaining existing pipe and hose work practice, they provide a guarantee that only pre-determined, correct hose and pipe couplings can be joined together to secure a correct chemical transfer/discharge to the correct port. They also ensure that only dedicated hoses can be coupled to fixed ports or connections (thus preventing cross contamination) where such a provision has important safety implications.

The use of Seetru Coded Couplings in self build and self check piping enables a company to make considerable cost savings, through savings in manpower time on checking and commissioning as well as the savings from risk reduction. It maintains quality and security at every link in the chemical/substance supply and discharge chain.

Seetru Coded Couplings offer the safeguard of accident prevention and environmental protection. They will assist in the implementation of environmental management policies and systems, such as under EMAS, BS7750 and ISO14001, and in particular with regard to risk management systems and reduction of risk. By the use of these couplings a company can address responsibilities in regard to:

The environment under the "Duty of Care" and UK EPA regulations and the US
"Responsible Care Initiative" in the Chemical Industry.

The "Provision and Use of Working Equipment Regulations 1992" issued by the British
Health & Safety Executive.

Ensuring traceability under the quality standard EN ISO9000.

Protection against cross-contamination to satisfy, for instance, FDA requirements.

Protection against product liability resulting from wrong discharge or accidental mixing
of liquids or chemicals.

Requirements under the UK COSHH regulations.

Available in 4 different flavours:
Coded Flange Couplings
Coded Cam Type Quick Action Couplings
Coded Screwed Couplings
Coded Hygienic Couplings

In all four categories the Seetru Coding Systems maintain the basic practice in the piping work to which the couplings relate. They introduce, however, specialized elements which endow essential coded features. The use of Seetru Coding Systems is therefore very easy in all applications and industries to which they refer and adds a degree of risk protection which has not existed hitherto. They also eliminate long checking procedures in the build-up to complicated pipe work, where in the past such procedures have represented a substantial part of the cost of installation.

Coded Flange Couplings
Flange Couplings are the widest used couplings in general pipe work and they are, for instance, applicable in:

Water Supply
Sewage Disposal
Chemical and Process Engineering
Oil Pipelines and Refineries

In this system the coding can be either of a re-codeable type or fixed code type. In the re-codeable execution the coding on a given flange can be changed with special safety tooling to change it to an alternative code to meet service requirements in which the particular flange is to be used.

Alternatively the coding will be fixed, which will dedicate a set of flanges to a particular code, and thus duty, which cannot readily be altered.

Seetru Coded Flanges are available for Metric, BS and ANSI flanges, but they can also be provided for any other standard which may be specified.

Flange material is generally stainless steel, but can be changed to meet requirements.

Coded Cam Quick Action Couplings
This type of coupling is widely used in petroleum exploration, production and distribution. It consists essentially of the male and female unit which are locked together by the rapid action of tensioning levers acting on elastomeric seals. The Seetru Coded Couplings fully maintain existing practice in this field as well, and provide high quality precision cast steel coupling elements. The standard coupling has a 2" bore, but other sizes can be provided to meet requirements.

Coded Screwed Couplings
Screwed couplings are widely used in fuel distribution and also work with flexible hoses. Sealing is mainly achieved with elastomeric seals, but other types of gaskets may also be used.

Seetru will provide Screwed Coded Couplings of the size and in the material required.

Coded Hygienic Couplings
This type of coupling is of the rim clamp type and it is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food and fine chemicals industry. It is also known as an IDF(International Diary Foundation) Coupling and characterized by the use of elastomeric or P.T.F.E. seals which provide an obstruction free, straight through bore, without any gaps or interstices in which impurities or fermentation products might accumulate. The Seetru Coded Hygienic Coupling maintains the existing seals and the full hygienic integrity of the system. It is available in sizes from 1/2" to 4" bore and employs standard clamps.

It offers particularly remarkable advantages to the industries for which it is destined.
